  1. 2012 Ride for the Cure Virginia
The fourth Ride for the Cure Virginia will be held Saturday, September 15, 2012 at Locust Hill Preserve, Culpeper, VA. We invite all to participate in this breast cancer fundraiser in which we use our passion for horses to help “end breast cancer forever”. The first three events hosted 200 riders and each exceeded our $100,000 goal. We have raised over $362,000 for Susan G. Komen, Central Virginia Affiliate.
Seventy-five percent of the funds raised at the Ride remain right here in Virginia to provide breast health screening, treatment, and education for uninsured and underinsured women in our community. The remaining 25 percent goes to fund national research to discover the causes of breast cancer and, ultimately, its cures.
Your donation provides women and men in Virginia with services that have literally saved lives. Your help makes the following programs possible:
    • Free mammograms and diagnostics
    • Medical treatment for qualified breast cancer patients who cannot afford care, including surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation
    • Support services including support groups, assistance with finding financial resources, prescription refills and transportation to medical appointments
    • Education about the warning signs of breast cancer, methods of early detection and the latest treatment options
    • Cutting edge research to find a cure for breast cancer
There are many options to participate. You can register as a rider, register as a “Ghost Rider” if you won’t be able to ride, or donate to one of the riders or to the general event fund. Rider participants will raise a minimum of $250 and may choose to participate in the Trail Ride Clinic or ride out on the trail with the designated groups. Trail Riding Clinic will be hosted by Grovespring Farm and owner/instructor, Susan Deal. There are awards to be given to those riders raising the most money (Platinum Award), $1000 (Gold Award), $500 (Silver Award), and $300 (Bronze Award). The 2010 and 2011 Platinum Riders each raised nearly $7000!
To register on-line or for more information about the event, go to www.komencentralva.org. Each registrant will be guided through a step by step process to set up a fundraising web page in which you can ask friends, relatives, co-workers, etc. to help reach your fundraising goal.
