Commonwealth Fox Hounds Hunter Pace April 21

Join us on Saturday, April 21, 2012 for CFH’s Spring Hunter Pace at Wirtland, Oak Grove, VA. A Hunter Pace is designed to test a horse's suitability as a field hunter. The event is ridden over a course simulating hunting terrain and should be ridden at a "hunting pace", i.e., the speed at which one would normally ride to the hounds. The course is marked with orange ribbons and arrows to indicate turns.

Registration: 9:00 AM

Fast Time Divisions: 9:30AM – 10:00 AM

Optimum Divisions (may be ridden in any order): 10:00 – 2:30 PM

Judging of Best Turned Out Pair: 9:30 – Noon

Scavenger Hunt: 10:00 AM – 3:30 PM

Awards: 4:00 PM

Entry Fee is $25 per horse per division. Entry fee for Scavenger Hunt is $15 per person. Best Turned Out is $5 per entrant.

FACILITIES

 Bring water for your horses.

 A port-a-potty will be in the parking area.

 A picnic lunch will be provided.

 Please bring drinks for yourself.

RESTRICTIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

 Negative Coggins within 12 months is required.

 Safety helmets must be worn when mounted.

 All riders must check-in to sign a release waiver and pickup numbers prior to mounting.

 Children under 18 must have parent or guardian sign release waiver – no exceptions. Waiver is available at: http://commonwealthfoxhounds.org/documents/waiver.pdf

 Age is determined as of January 1, 2012. Junior is defined as age 18 and under.

 Senior is defined as age 19 and over.

 Casual riding attire permitted

 All divisions completed as a pair

Fast and Optimum Time (Over Fences and On the Flat) divisions are open to pairs of riders. On the Flat pairs may go around all fences; Over Fences pairs must jump all fences. In case of a refusal over fences, riders must make two more efforts to get over the fence, but may then go around that fence without being penalized.

 Optimum time will be computed by averaging all teams' times after dropping the fastest and slowest times. The teams coming closest to that average will be declared winners in optimum time classes.

 Optimum Time, Sr./Jr. division is open to pairs consisting of one Senior and one Junior rider; all fences are optional.

 Silver Fox Optimum division is open to pairs, age 40 and over.

 Best Turned out may be entered as an individual or as a pair. Entrants are judged on turn out of their mounts and proper hunt appointments.

 Scavenger Hunt will include a list of natural and man-made items to be found by you and your steed on property adjacent to, but not on Hunter Pace Course.
